An Illustrated Catalogue of Japanese Old Fine Arts Displayed at The Japan-British Exhibition London & An Illustrated Catalogue of Japanese Modern Fine Arts Displayed at The Japan-British Exhibition London, 1910, Tokyo, Shimbi Shoin, compiled by The Office of the Imperial Japanese Government Commission to the Japan-British Exhibition, Shimbi Shoin, 1910, 8vo (7 1/4 x 10 1/4 in), floral cloth over paper cover, string bound, paper label front cover, top and bottom edges gilt, 2 volume set. Both volumes have similar paste on titles and title pages. The two volumes catalogue the Japanese art items displayed at the exhibition. The items on display at the exhibition are assigned numbers in the catalogues and listed in the text section of each volume. Many of the items listed are depicted on the accompanying collotype plates with a brief descriptive title and the identification number which is referenced in the text section. The black and white collotype plates are printed on one side of the page and are on the same paper (thin) as used for the text pages.

  • Volume I: Japanese Old Fine Arts, 79 pages of text listing 437 exhibits with 262 of these items depicted on 167 pages of plates. Exhibition items are (items 1-296), sculptures (items 297-317), models of old buildings (items 318-330), metal works (items 331-370) including hundreds of swords and sword guards which are consolidated in lots, lacquer wares (items 371-432) and a supplemental unnumbered list of 2 paintings, 2 metal works and 1 lacquer ware.

  • Volume II: Japanese Modern Fine Arts, 11 pages of text listing 263 exhibits with all of these items depicted on 157 pages of plates. Exhibition items are Japanese paintings (1-41), Western style paintings (items 42-60), sculptures (items 61-101), designs (items 102-120), woodcuts (items 121-134), pottery (items 135-158), cloisonne (items 159-180), metal works (items 181-221), dyed fabrics and embroideries (items 222-240), lacquer wares (items 241-259) and inlaid wood-works (items 260-263).

Between the two catalogues there are a total of 90 pages of text listing 700 exhibits with 525 of the items depicted on 324 pages of plates.

The Japan-British Exposition of 1910 was one of several Worlds Fairs and Expositions held in 1910. The event was held from May 14 through October 31, 1910.
