Condition. The books are in Good condition. The covers are heavily faded and have numerous tears and chips and the spines sunned. The bottom right corner of the front cover of Volume I is badly broken. Internally the books have scattered foxing and staining. The paper remains supple and is not brittle. Many of the pages adjacent to plates have foxing on the text from the plates. Internal hinges are cracked. The binding of Volume I is weak but still holding. Three plates in Volume I have been reinserted. A detail rating of the plates in Volume I is provided below. The condition of the plates in that volume is above average. The maps in the folio at the rear of Volume II appear to have never been opened.
