Fu-So Mimi Bukuro
C. Pfoundes, 1875

Stiff Wraps Version

Condition. The book is in Good+ condition. This is the unbound, stiff wraps, version of the book. There is significant creasing at the upper right corner. The front cover has the upper right corner clipped. The next 15 pages show evidence of creasing from dog eared tips progressing to light creasing. The spine covering is broken at the top for approximately 1/2 inch. Internally clean and free of foxing, staining or marking. I would rate the contents Very Good+. A very nice example of this book which is seldom found in the stiff wrap state.

Pfoundes, C.:
Fu-So Mimi Bukuro. A Budget of Japanese Notes, Reprinted from the 'Japan Mail', Yokohama, Printed and Published at the "Japan Mail" Office, 1875, 12mo (5 3/8 x 7 1/2 in - 13.8 x 19.2 cm), brown cloth with leather spine and leather tipped corners, 184 pp. Reprints of 30+ articles previously published in the Japan Weekly Mail. Topics cover a wide range of subjects including superstitions, music, theatre, dress, swords and hara kiri.

In the preface, Pfoundes characterizes this collection of articles as "...a portion of the fruits of the compiler's research and studying during a residence in this country already extending more than a decade." It appears from this comment that Pfoundes actually wrote these articles which were previously published in the Japan Weekly Mail.
