Condition. The book is in Very Good condition. Cover is bight and bindings tight. Light rubbing along the edges of the spine. Head and foot of the spine soft with some fraying, corners bumped and few minor scrapes along the edges. Three of the plates have tears but none intrude into the image area. All tissue guards present. Minor smudging in the margins of some plates. A very nice copy of this book.

Text is in German. All the plates are protected by tissue guard. Most of the color plates were produced by "E. Hochdanz, Stuttgart." Japanese art and artifacts (painting, bronze, enamel ware, sword guards, vases etc) shown in high quality chromolithographs and monochrome plates. Regarding this book, Wencksterm notes " ... 6 pp text, 50 plates in folio, Stuttgart 1887, (published in 15 parts at Mk 1.20 each)."
