Scott 16A (RPSS 16) was received December 29, 1951 (a Saturday) and issued January 1, 1952 (a Tuesday). No first day of issue for this stamp has been recorded. The RPSS catalogue lists the earliest known recognized date of use as January 17, 1952. The catalogue notes this was:

A block of ten, positions 81-85, 91-95. Position 95 is wide spaced bottom bars variety (s16:1f) (RPSS Catalogue, page 250)
This horizontal block (2 across x 5 down) of 10 is pictured at page 45 of the RPSS catalogue and is canceled with a Naha roller cancel dated 1952.1.17.

The used 16A block of 12 on this page is 3 across x 4 down. The block is canceled with a Naha roller cancels dated 1952.1.17. It is positions 64-66, 74-76, 84-6 and 94-6. This block has several recognized varieties:

  • Scott 16Ad, position 76, "White Sky".
  • Scott 16Af, positions 86 and 95, wide spaced bottom bars (both present).
  • Scott 16Aa, Positions 85 & 86, 9/9 - 8/8 in horizontal pair.
  • Not Scott listed, 3 vertical pairs top 8/8 - bottom 9/9 (pos 74 & 84, 75 & 85 and 86 & 96.

This block entered the philatelic market in mid-2022.
