This unit contains 6 large hand colored photographs. They are not albumen photographs. I believe they are Gelatin Printing Out Paper photographs that have been hand tinted. The photographs measure 9 x 11 1/2 in (23.5 x 29.2) or slighlty larger. The first two photographs have the same image but different coloring. On the back of some of the photographs is a "Made in Japan" handstamp. I believe that these images were imported into the United States in the early 1920s and were made during that same time period. One image has a caption in the text (A211 Cherry-Blossoms Park).
I believe these photographs were produced by the gelatin printing-out paper process which was in use from 1885-1920. They do not appear to be albumen prints. The paper is thin and shows no signs of curling or surface cracking as I would expect on an albumen photograph. There is no pattern that would indicate they are photomechanically reproduced.
